Read The End First--Discussion

Read the end
First
24 Apocalyptic
Tales
24 Time Zones
Ever wondered how the world
would end if you could decide?
This anthology takes the concept
of The Apocalypse a step further.
24 authors picked their own time zone to destroy. Each story is an original take on the apocalypse, seriously how fun would 24 stories about giant chinchillas eating us really be?
Each talented author is weaving an apocalyptic tale to leave you wondering what if the prophecies are right?
What date should we believe? I have no idea, all of them, perhaps none of them. The stories in this collection will make you wonder if it comes what happens, and will most definitely give you ideas that never occurred to you before.
What is your favorite apocalypse
idea?
What ideas have been overused/overdone?
How would you end the world?
This thread is to get ideas,
opinions, and the other authors talking.
In a day or two I will post
the TOC.
This is a project being edited
by myself, Suzanne Robb and Adrian Chamberlin.
For the Authors
Each story should start at
12:00:01 a.m. (please put this somewhere in the beginning of the story)
The world needs to end, or at the very least be headed in that direction with no chance of saving. It must also be based in the time zone you selected.
Please feel free to get creative, you can mention other places, what is going on there if you need to emphasize what is happening in your time zone; just please try to make sure your time zone is the main attraction in your story.

Hi Suzanne
Good to see you're getting the word out on this.
I am going to use two characters I developed for an earlier, as yet unpublished story as the center of my hurricane-based piece in Halifax. Is that all right?
David Perlmutter
Hi David,
You can use whatever characters you like. The only things I am a stickler for is the world must end, and the story starts at 12:00:01 a.m.
Hope that helps

By time zone... I am a little confused. Does that mean each setting much be unique and original? My time zone is about 12 hrs ahead of the USA, so do I do a uniquely Australian end of the world story? Is that what is being aimed for here?

Hi Steven,
This is mostly for discussion. Each time zone has already been filled as an open call would have been a nightmare to guarantee every time zone was filled and each apocalypse was original and not duplicated.
Suzanne
I love the cover..

I love it too, I think Jessica did a fantastic job!
Sorry. I misunderstood. My bad.

No need to be sorry, and no bad at all. I hope there are more apocalypse type anthologies in the future..I have ideas which can be a bad thing :)
Now that you are on my radar, watch out,
Yo Suzanne! I was going to have my protagonist waking up on the morning of the apocalypse (for one idea I've had) - would this be okay, or do you want the stories to actually start at 12:00:01 eg they're walking down the street, notice the time, then everything abruptly goes tits-up
Hi there, the story needs to start at 12:00:01 am but this can be done in so many ways, a person is sleeping and wakes up.
Or something random happens outside, a strong wind, the sky is an odd color..something that the main characters do not necessarily see.
Just a sentence that lets the reader know the time has come.
You can still do your story and have the world go 'tits up'
Hope that helps
The Blight is coming .... OK, after that shameless bit of self-promotion, I am checking in to say I am honored to have been chosen to bring my own dark vision of the end of all things to this anthology. Great cover and really looking forward to seeing the finished product.
George Wilhite (The Blight--Guam Standard Time--hey, I knew being a military brat would come in handy some day!--2 years on Guam as a kid)

Okay doke. Cheers, Suzanne!
Hi all.
Adrian Chamberlin here. Thank you all for coming on board this project!
I'm writing the back cover blurb at the moment, with hints of all your wonderful apocalypses. But I need your help.
I know each of your allotted time zones, but I don't know the countries you're setting them in. Can you let me know on this thread, or drop me an email on sickofitall28[at]hotmail.com.
Cheers,
Ade
Hi Adrian:
My story is in my home country, Canada.
David Perlmutter
Hey Ade, my tales is set in Anadyr (where?), up on the northeast coast of Russia/Siberia. I have some scenes on the western coast of the US as well, but my time zone is for Anadyr (where?), and the bulk of my story takes place there.
